So
what is a Chimp Spanner anyway?

Chimp
Spanner is an instrumental progressive metal project
I've been working on for the past few years, and made
its first appearance with my debut album 'Imperium Vorago' (2004). The
idea has always been to bring together all the music I
love into one package, from low tuned tech metal and
dark seedy fusion, to warbly 80's ambient electro and
cheesy feel-good euphoria. I'm also slightly (see:
dangerously) obsessed with all things sci-fi and film.
My latest CD 'At the Dream's Edge' brings all of
this together to create a sound that's new, yet
familiar. Angular and jarring, yet ambient and
evocative. It's soundtrack metal, progressive
retro-futurism, a polymetric space opera, music for
hover-boarding championships...but most people just say
it's kinda 'chimpy'.
About Me
My name
is Paul Antonio Ortiz, I'm 25 and based in Essex (UK).
I'm a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer -
taught by my parents - and have been hopelessly
passionate about music since I can remember. I
primarily play extended range guitars (7 and 8 string)
but I also play bass, keyboards and drums on all of my
tracks. All recording, mixing and production is
done from my home studio.
At the
moment, I'm just making the music I want to hear, but
ideally I'd love to write music for games, tv and film.
